I currently have all of my videos (already encoded with Handbrake) on an external drive so that my Plex Media Server & application can access them. Plex does its own magic to add the metadata to Plex.
I've now decided that I'd like to use this same copy of the movies in iTunes so that it's easier to access via the Apple TV (2nd gen). I can easily add the files to iTunes (and keep the actual files in the current location), by adding them to iTunes while holding down the option key. However, this gives me a file in iTunes that is perfectly playable on all devices but has NO metadata beyond the title of the movie.
I want an application that will NOT try to re-encode, will NOT move the location of the file, etc. I still want the files left in the current location so that Plex can continue to utilize them. However, I DO want the files in iTunes to have all of the important metadata. Ideally, I'd like the app to be able to watch a folder on the external drive and automatically add them to iTunes (as a referenced file without copying it to the iTunes folder) and add the metadata.
Is this application good for this use case? Or should I get something that's more of a "one-trick-pony"? I'm trying to do a little research before I decide to purchase it via the MAS.
By the way, the application and the iTunes is running on a 2010 Mac Mini running the current version of Lion.

I'd like to know this as well. I do all my encoding via handbrake and just want iFlicks to do metadata tagging and nothing else.
http://support.iflicksapp.com/entries/20226291-itunes-services-menu here u can find your answer....
…If you just want to open a track in iFlicks, choose "Open selected tracks in iFlicks". That way you can decide which action to perform in iFlicks. Choosing "iTunes compatible", will allow you to just update the metadata, the other presets will encode the track for the corresponding Apple Device.…
I'm having issues with this, too. I just want iFlicks to tag my videos with metadata, but not do any encoding/video processing/file moving. How do I accomplish this?
When I try the method here: http://support.iflicksapp.com/entries/20226291-itunes-services-menu it still reduces the file size quite a bit. It worries me that some quality is being lost.
Ideas?
I've also noticed the file size shrinking when using the "iTunes compatible" setting.
Would love to know the best way to add meta data to an .mp4 file.
Glad I found this thread before purchasing. I'm in the exact same boat. All my media is already ripped/encoded via Handbrake. I just want to easily add metadata, preferably in a somewhat automated fashion.
Will be holding off purchase until this feature exists.
I don't see any file size shrinkage. Actually my files are slightly larger after doing this method. I open iFlicks, drag my media (already encoded via handbrake) into the app -> have the preset set for iTunes Compatible ( I leave in current location and don't add to iTunes yet.) Once I do this things seem to be working fine. It quickly adds the metadata without recoding anything.
Hmmm... I followed Jake's suggestion and downloaded the 1.2.3 version which worked perfectly. Flatten to QT adds the metadata without farting around with any unneeded video conversion.
However when the 15 day shareware limit expired and I bought iFlicks through the app store, the old version when I reinstalled it didn't "see" that I'd paid for the new version. (The app store version doesn't give out a licence key).
Any suggestions?
